Let Me Drown With You by Rise to the Sky
Rise To The Sky – Let Me Drown With You
March 12th, 2021
Atmospheric Death Doom

“A truly mournful masterpiece, Rise To The Sky’s new album Let Me Drown With You will be released March 12. The second track, “Dream The Pain Is Gone,” dazzles in its dreariness. What makes Let Me Drown With You so effective is the songwriting. Acoustic guitars and orchestral arrangements make each track an exquisite dirge. Solo contributor Sergio G has crafted a gripping, emotionally palpable atmosphere. You can’t help but be moved by this music. Underscoring this audible grief is the fact that Sergio dedicated the album to his father. He passed away Jan 6, 2021. Our condolences, sir. And thank you for such a sorrowful, beautiful album.”“Funeral Doom” Friday by Grant Skeleton at Metal Injection

Portfolio: Xeno Ooze – “Slimewave” 2020 (Death Grind)

Xeno Ooze is a three-piece hive-minded grindcore outfit from the scorching Sonoran deserts of Phoenix, Arizona. Formed in 2018 by ex-members of Glitterbomb and Drogheda, Xeno Ooze weaves elements of death metal, crust, power violence and oozing science fiction into a sludgy conglomerate of mach-speed blasting, pummeling riffs, and gutturals from the maws of The Old Ones themselves. Slimewave continues the aesthetic of their 2019 debut “Parasligm Shift” by remaining consistent in their toxic choice of artwork and subverting the expectations of grind.

Portfolio: Rise to The Sky – “A Cold Embrace From Life” 2020 (Death Doom)

Rise The Sky is the solo project of Chilean musician Sergio G who has wasted no time this year and is back already with follow up the critically acclaimed October LP “Death Will Not Keep Us Apart”. The heart of this new EP, “A Cold Embrace From Life” is an atmospheric death doom experience that trudges through the emotions of grief and a stinging lack of closure. It embraces the signature sound of the band while also exhibiting various improvements over previous releases. Sergio says of the album:

Portfolio: Rise To The Sky – “Death Will Not Keep Us Apart” 2020 (Death Doom)

Rise To The Sky is a solo death doom project that borders on the funeral side of things. After making releases for a couple of years Rise To The Sky cements their style and aesthetic with this new album Death Will Not Keep Us Apart. Between the compositions, sound and album artwork, this is very far from a run of the mill made in a bedroom kind of solo project. It’s miles ahead in quality and preparedness. Enjoy the story telling and longform doom atmosphere with this brand new LP.

Portfolio: Thorn – “The Encompassing Nothing” 2020 (Death Doom)

Cavernous. Brooding. Bleak. Thorn is a one-man project from Phoenix, Arizona specializing in the foreboding and ominous. Weaving elements of death metal, doom, post and grind, the debut release “The Encompassing Nothing” is the ideal soundscape for worshipping pagan gods and making offerings to unknown entities. Created by the guitarist from Xeno Ooze and Glitterbomb.

Portfolio: White Crone – “The Poisoner” 2020 (Traditional Heavy Metal)

“Lisa Mann made a career as an award winning blues artist, but never lost her love of metal music. Growing up in the mosh pits of the 1980’s, she was inspired by bands such as Iron Maiden, Mercyful Fate, Black Sabbath, Manowar, Dio and more. A mostly one-woman project, White Crone is a love letter to this grand era of metal, and a lyrical homage to mystical storytelling traditions of yore”

Portfolio: Extinction – “Smouldering Enfoulment” 2020 (Slam)

This is one of those projects I love to promote because of there sheer amount of talking points. Publications will have a field day with this one, for better or worse. Extinction is an aggressively environmentally conscious slam band that weaves samples into the chaotic music to tell a story. Their new album Smouldering Enfoulment is a natural continuation of their 2019 demo Anthropogenic Degradation of Ecosystemic Vegetation and the amount of progression made since last year is very impressive. From the composition to the production, this is a chunky album that delivers on it’s promise to crusade for nature.

Portfolio: Old Bones – “Sleepwalker EP” 2020 (Alt/Stoner)

Hailing from Long Island, New York, Old Bones is the culmination of 20+ year friendships, fights, musical cultivation, and exploration. Following years of stop-start momentum, the band finally found its footing after watching a Mastodon/Opeth show and realizing what they needed to do. After a ton of individual writing, they had enough to begin rehearsing with Griffin McCarthy (Letter of Marque) and ultimately put 5 of these ferocious songs to tape to release them to the masses in March 2020.

Portfolio: Scissorfight – “Doomus Abruptus Vol.1” 2019 (Southern Rock)

Self described as “Acid mountain rock”, “Speed Doom” or just “Heavy Fuckin’ Rock”. Scissorfight has just released their first LP in over a decade and first every Vinyl LP since reforming with a new lineup in 2016. Scissorfight are back in full mud stomping force. Doomus Abruptus Vol.1 is front to back a raucous good time. Caveman Television is the strongest opening to an album you can get, it is an anthem worthy lead into some of the most southern and heaviest rock and roll you will hear this year from an OG band of the genre. “Give rock or give me death”.

Portfolio: Molog – “Tri” 2019 (Black Metal)

Molog are a duo from Melbourne Australia that combine the harshness of raw black metal with melancholic story telling, resulting in a large impactful sound. Not many people have heard this one and such is the nature of underground Australian black metal. It’s a different beast from many American and European acts we’ve become accustomed to. It’s not just raw for the sake of being raw, it has a strong audio thesis and will entice you in accompanying it on the harrowing journey that is Tri. The band is currently in the process of making a diverse and expressive follow up.
